Question by SSTLM: What are the chances my newborn son will have diabetes if my husband is type 2?
My husband is 31 years old. He got type 2 diabetes 4 years ago. We now have a newborn and I’m nervous he will get diabetes in his life as well. Anyone know the risks? Thank you!

Question by colbster_11: has anyone ever felt worse and had higher blood sugar on the diabetic diet?
I am 29 and a half weeks pregnant and was just diagnosed with gestional diabetes so they put me on the diabetic diet and told me to moniter my blood sugar, problem is I feel very weak and tierd and just bad in general since i started it and my blood sugars have been even higher than before, ever heard of this and if so what happened?

Best answer:

Answer by AzOasis8
Lower your carb intake, and that will bring your sugars down, and you’ll feel better. When I was first diagnosed, the nutritionist told me to eat between 200-250 carbs per day. I found I couldn’t eat that many and had to lower it to fit my sugars.

Lately I’ve found myself urinating quite oftem, very thristy, and feeling very nauseated when I have eaten something in a few hours. Could this possibly be symptons of diabetes?

Diabetes does run in the family and I just found out that two more realitives were diagnosed. They are much older though, I’m only 23. I’m hoping that I am just being paranoid.

What are the symptoms and what can I do to make sure I don’t get them if at all possible?

Best answer:

Answer by Max
Get your blood sugar tested by a doctor, or by a family member who has a blood glucose meter.

The symptoms I displayed when I was diagnosed were constant thirst, frequent urination and blurry vision.

Best answer:

Answer by brasilera67
I would suggest doing so, yes. Sugar is taboo when you are pre-diabetic. I recommend cutting out all “white” foods, i.e., white rice, white bread, potatoes and corn. Switch to brown rice (which is pretty tasty), wheat or multigrain bread. Stay away from sodas and drink plenty of water.

Wouldn’t hurt to incorporate exercise in your daily living.

Question by BirdDog: To support my wife I am thinking about following her diabetic diet with her – Is there any reason not to?
My wife has been a type II diabetic for a few years now. She recently started taking 5mls Byetta. She absolutly will not exercise. The only thing I can think of to help her is to follow the same diet. I have two teenage boys and yes they eat like horses (and don’t show it) and I will continue to supply them with carbs. I am at a loss on how to help my wife from deteriorating. I am currently reading a book by Dr. Bernstein (Diabetes Solution). Please help, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Question by : What is the percentage that a type 1 diabetic father will pass it on to his children, son or daughter?
I am type 1 diabetic and Brett Michaels stated that if a father has type 1 diabetes, that there is a 50% chance that his children would obtain diabetes.
Question by : What is the percentage that a type 1 diabetic father will pass it on to his children, son or daughter?
I am type 1 diabetic and Brett Michaels stated that if a father has type 1 diabetes, that there is a 50% chance that his children would obtain diabetes. Type 1 or type 2, what are the chances.

Best answer:

Answer by Miz Lamb
That is a total crock!! Type1 is much less genetic than most other conditions and diseases. Since in most people it is caused by disease, virus, or injury to the pancreas it is not at all genetic.

My friend is type 1, no one in her past generations ever had type 1, her children and grandchildren do not have it. She alone in her family has diabetes. My other best friend the same thing but she never had children as the doctors discouraged it when we were growing up. Come to think of it, I don’t know any men who have type 1. I had an efriend who did, but he died of some really rare complications which I cannot remember the name of right now. His daughter doesn’t have diabetes tho.

Type 2 is another story entirely. There is a 50% better chance that one’s children will eventually become type 2 diabetics. Most of the people I know who are diabetic, so was one of their parents and some of their children are tending that way, in spite of us trying to encourage them to live by a different lifestyle than that in which we raised them.

Question by sand_mansb: Is it possible to get diabetes after testing negative for it?
5 years ago I was heavier than now, and had frequent urination. So I was tested for diabetes. The test came back negative. Since then I have exercised more, lost weight, brought my blood pressure down, and now participating in ncaa sports in college. But I have a weird feeling in my feet like blood is not circulating there. Every now and then if I eat something unhealthy I get head aches. But that’s about it is possible to develop diabetes later in life.

Best answer:

Answer by m b
Weird feeling?? Why are you psyching yourself out?
You’ve dramatically progressed, as far as weight and body progression !
Congratulations, I definitely would not stress or freak yourself out, if you have more problems trusting yourself, I would go get re-tested.

Also I get light headed sometimes, hotflashes, can go from happy to sad at times,I do urinate frequently but always have, sometimes I feel weak like I dont have energy like usual I dont know if any of these symptoms have anything to do w/ this but if I dont control my moods my husband is going to leave me. I dont know whats going on. I will get a bruise and it will take months for it to disappear. I was adopted so I dont know much about my medical history but I do know diabetes, strokes, cancer, thyroid disease runs on my bio. fathers side. I get chest pains on the left side of my chest but its hard to tell what it is from indigestion its not real intense but it is bothersome @ times.

Question by jonathin l: What kind of diet a diabetic needs to be on?
a list of foods you can eat and foods you can’t eat.

Best answer:

Answer by Kai
You can eat anything. What you choose to eat is something else. And what type of diabetes (1 or 2) you have will make a difference, how high your usually blood glucose numbers will make a difference, whether you are injecting insulin, life style–all will affect which foods you choose to eat. If you are a highly active person who’s numbers are only slightly above normal, you can probably get away with eating basically healthy meals with a bit more carbs then someone who is more sedentary or has high glucose numbers. I generally test right at 99 upon waking and my glucose almost never goes about 150 two hours after eating (and that’s high for me) but I prefer to eat as few carbs as possible, except when I feel the need for more. But on work days I don’t have time to do much exercising so I take that into account. You need to get your doctor to send you to a diabetes training class(es) to learn all this stuff because basically managing your diabetes is a balancing act for which you have control and decide what to do. Atkins, South Beach, some others like that are more diabetic-friendly then many other diet plans–but I can’t follow their regimes and just tested myself a lot to find out which foods shoot my glucose up too high so I can make intelligence choices now.
