Question by colbster_11: has anyone ever felt worse and had higher blood sugar on the diabetic diet?
I am 29 and a half weeks pregnant and was just diagnosed with gestional diabetes so they put me on the diabetic diet and told me to moniter my blood sugar, problem is I feel very weak and tierd and just bad in general since i started it and my blood sugars have been even higher than before, ever heard of this and if so what happened?

Lower your carb intake, and that will bring your sugars down, and you’ll feel better. When I was first diagnosed, the nutritionist told me to eat between 200-250 carbs per day. I found I couldn’t eat that many and had to lower it to fit my sugars.

Question by britmcclain: What are the signs of diabetes and when should I be tested?
Lately I’ve found myself urinating quite oftem, very thristy, and feeling very nauseated when I have eaten something in a few hours. Could this possibly be symptons of diabetes?

Diabetes does run in the family and I just found out that two more realitives were diagnosed. They are much older though, I’m only 23. I’m hoping that I am just being paranoid.

What are the symptoms and what can I do to make sure I don’t get them if at all possible?

Get your blood sugar tested by a doctor, or by a family member who has a blood glucose meter.

The symptoms I displayed when I was diagnosed were constant thirst, frequent urination and blurry vision.

Question by Duke: I am pre-diabetic. What kind of diet and nutrician program do I need to follow in order to avoid diabetes?
Do I need to avoid sugar completely?
What are some specific foods that work in my new diet?

I would suggest doing so, yes. Sugar is taboo when you are pre-diabetic. I recommend cutting out all “white” foods, i.e., white rice, white bread, potatoes and corn. Switch to brown rice (which is pretty tasty), wheat or multigrain bread. Stay away from sodas and drink plenty of water.

Wouldn’t hurt to incorporate exercise in your daily living.

Question by BirdDog: To support my wife I am thinking about following her diabetic diet with her – Is there any reason not to?
My wife has been a type II diabetic for a few years now. She recently started taking 5mls Byetta. She absolutly will not exercise. The only thing I can think of to help her is to follow the same diet. I have two teenage boys and yes they eat like horses (and don’t show it) and I will continue to supply them with carbs. I am at a loss on how to help my wife from deteriorating. I am currently reading a book by Dr. Bernstein (Diabetes Solution). Please help, I am open to suggestions.

I became hoarse before Christmas and developed a lump in my throat. Saw an Otolaryngologist an he diagnosed me with Laryngo Bronchial Relux. Treatment is no acid,no caffeine,no soda,no carbonated beverages. So no tomato or tomato based products. This eliminates my Italian and Mexican food, Pepsi and Beer lovng diet. HELP!!
