This is the American Heart Association website- this section gives healthy diet instruction and other lifestyle changes that help with both blood pressure and heart disease.

The AHA cookbook is very good, by the way, with lots of tasty recipes that are good for you. It even involves sweets.

Question by john00world: What’s the best diet for a diabetic person with a blood type 0+?
l have a friend from and lives in Africa; he is of blood type 0+ ,and is diabetic;he would like to know what’s the best diet to follow while living in Arica?

Best answer:

Answer by john e russo md facm faafp
Although there is a book that states that a person’s blood type should dictate their diet – and although this book has made quite a bit of money – it is absolute nonsense. A person’s blood type has nothing to do with the type of diet that they should consume whether they are a diabetic diet or not. The best diet for a diabetic has been muddled quite a bit by of all people the American Diabetes Association. They have changed their recommended diet many times over my 30 years in medicine because there is no ‘special’ diet that a diabetic requires. A diabetic should eat the same diet that would be recommended for virtually anyone – and it is a diet that in urban areas is rarely followed. The diet would be one rich in fresh fruits in vegetables, minimizing processed foods, salt, fats, cholesterol, and sugar (glucose). The latter is a bit complicated as ‘sugar’ is a vague term comprising a varied group of carbohydrates all of which have a different ‘glycemic index’. The higher the glycemic index the more likely that the carbohydrate in the food will end up as glucose as opposed to another substance. Depending upon where in Africa this person is living they may find that the diet is one of fresh fruits and vegetables with a minimal amount of processed food. Salt is easily avoided and fats and high cholesterol food is less common in Africa than in the United States. So far as glycemic index is concerned I do not know that I would worry much about this as from your question I gather that your friend is living in Africa temporarily. If they are planning on living in Africa long-term then I would suggest that they type ‘glycemic index’ into a search engine on the internet for advice. On of the most important issues for a diabetic is to maintain a ‘lean’ body weight. A person’s body mass index should be less than 25 kg/M2 if they are 25 years old or older. If you type ‘body mass index’ into a search engine you will find many sites that will calculate your body mass index for you if you input your height and weight. The 25 kg/M2 referenced above may not apply for those less than age 25 – the goal for body mass index is more difficult to establish for these individuals. I wish you and your friend the very best of health and may God Bless.

Question by Me: With your gestational diabetes when did high blood pressure start?
I am 31 1/2 weeks pregnant and failed my 3 hour glucose test. I am controlling my blood sugar with diet, but was wondering when high blood pressure usually starts with gestational diabetes? I had high blood pressure at the end of my last pregnancy and was induced at 37 weeks. I didn’t have gestational diabetes last time though.

Best answer:

Answer by neato1975
Weird…I was also induced during my 1st pregnancy at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia (no GD that time) and had GD with my second pregnancy. My bp never got that high during my 2nd pregnancy, though it did slowly and steadily rise at the end.

Effective Ways to Control Diabetes and Maintain Normal Blood Sugar Levels

Heredity, stress, alcoholism, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, obesity and high blood pressure are triggering factors in case of diabetes. By maintaining a healthy body weight and lifestyle, by means of brisk walking, free-hand exercises and appropriate diet plan, one can fight against diabetes. Of the many types of diabetes, three are the most prevalent: Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Type1 diabetes occurs due to low insulin production, Type 2 diabetes occurs due to cell growing resistant to insulin and gestational diabetes is the result of pregnancy in many women who never have had a history of diabetes before. Factors like heredity, stress and anxiety, obesity, immobility, over-intake of carbohydrates, nutritional deficiencies, and pancreatic disorders contribute to diabetes. Diabetes if not arrested in time can lead to serious complications pertaining to heart, kidneys, retina and nervous system.

Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes

1. Frequent urination

          ]]>

2. Increased hunger
3. Increased thirst
4. Fatigue
5. Irritability
6. Weight loss
7. Poor wound healing
8. Susceptibility to infections

Causes

Probable causes of Diabetes can be listed as

1. Genetic factors
2. Excessive consumption of junk and processed food
3. Too much intake of refined sugar and carbohydrates
4. Obesity
5. Sedentary lifestyle
6. Pregnancy can cause diabetes in few cases

Effective Ways to Control Diabetes

Medicines for diabetes are usually quite expensive. To get the best deal on diabetes supplements and remedies, the patient must be aware of the market rates of the supplements he or she has been asked to take by a medical practitioner. The patient must be aware of rebate programs, free shipping or discount coupons given for the medicines by many websites. This would lower the price of medicines considerably.

1. One may treat diabetes naturally with the help of natural herbal supplements like diabkil capsules etc making use of herbs like neem, fenugreek, bitter melon, cinnamon, ginger, garlic, ginkgo biloba, Asian ginseng, bilberry etc.

2. Medicines like oral pills and insulin therapy as suggested by doctor can also reverse diabetic complications.

3. Gymnema extracts stimulate pancreas to produce more insulin, and lower the patient’s craze for sweets.

4. There are many home remedies that are very effective in managing and controlling diabetes. One can try these remedies to balance blood sugar levels. These remedies are completely natural, safe and effective and can considerably help diabetic patients in managing the disease.

Diabetes if not controlled timely, can be quite lethal in nature, affecting and damaging heart, blood vessels, kidneys, retina of eyes and the nervous system. Control your diabetes and blood sugar levels and live a healthier and longer life.
