Question by Lori M: What causes diabetes to get worse with weight loss?
My dad has been a diabetic for years and he has finally lost a lot of weight I mean the man wears a size 32 pants now and looks like a skeleton. His diabetes has gotten worse and he has had to go up on his medication. Anyone else ever experience this?

Best answer:

Answer by TheOrange Evil
There was a study of Type 2 diabetics a while back: about 50% of the test group experienced a progression of the disease and 50% did not. The study made no attempt to figure out why, but there are probably a few reasons – poor blood sugar control destroying the pancreas (glucotoxicity), genetics, and age. Weight loss can improve insulin resistance, but if your father has become insulin deficient, too, then he’s going to need more medication or insulin.

Type 2 Diabetes Causes ? How Symptoms Can be Managed

Adult Onset Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is often referred to as adult onset diabetes for the simple reason that most Type 2 Diabetes diagnoses occur in the adult years. Unlike Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes is not an autoimmune disease. Rather than destroying the cells that produce insulin, in Type 2 Diabetes, the body shows a resistance to this insulin and the cells ignore the insulin that is produced.

Risk Factors

Like Type 1 Diabetes, there is no known cause for Type 2 Diabetes and there is no known cure. Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic condition, which means that it is a long-term disease that cannot be cured, but that can be managed. Once you are diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, it is important that you begin a plan to successfully manage the symptoms of the disease as quickly as possible in order to avoid or delay other complications and illnesses that can derive from untreated diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes can in people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds. However, there are some groups that are at higher risk for Type 2 Diabetes, such as African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans, and Latinos.

Obesity is one of the many factors that can contribute to the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. While obesity does not cause the disease, the presence of more fatty tissue can cause the cells to become more resistant to the insulin that your body naturally produces.

Inactivity can also make the risk of contracting Type 2 Diabetes higher. Exercise and physical activity helps you to control your weight as well as uses up glucose as energy, which helps to make your cells more sensitive to insulin.

Family history and age can also play an important role in the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. The risk of Type 2 Diabetes increases if you have a parent or sibling who has been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. The risk also increases as you age, simply because people tend to get less exercise, lose muscle mass, and gain weight all of which contribute to the cells becoming more resistant to the insulin that your body produces.

Can Type 2 Diabetes Be Prevented?

There are many contributing factors to Type 2 Diabetes. Even if diabetes runs in your family, there are certain lifestyle choices that can help to reduce your risk of Type 2 Diabetes or to help reduce the risk of other complication and illnesses that can be a result of Type 2 Diabetes.

One of the most important prevention tools is a healthy diet. A healthy diet consists of foods that are low in fat and calories and includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Sweets do not have to be totally avoided, however should be consumed in small quantities and should be a part of a diet including plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Regular exercise is also an important prevention tool. Since obesity is one of the most common risk factors for Type 2 Diabetes, a regular exercise routine combined with a healthy diet not only reduces your risk of obesity and the onset of Type 2 Diabetes symptoms, it also reduces your risk of other illnesses and diseases. Regular exercise also helps to maintain good muscle tone and good blood flow, both of which help your body to function properly and aid in the prevention and recovery of many illnesses and diseases.

While Type 2 Diabetes is a serious and long-term illness, and can result in life-threatening complications, a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes does not have to be a death sentence. Proper education and management of the disease can increase your chance of living a long healthy life and it starts with maintaining a healthy lifestyle as early in life as possible. Type 2 Diabetes is a serious, yet manageable disease. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the most important things you can do in the prevention and management of Type 2 Diabetes.

Control Diabetes-And The Causes of Diabetes

What causes diabetes?

Prior to talking about how to control diabetes it is a good thing if we should know the cause of diabetes. The diabetes symptoms and signs occur due to the body’s lack of ability to make use of sugar in the bloodstream to fuel cells. Devoid of insulin, sugar remains in the blood where the kidneys eventually make an effort to filter it out and reprocess it in order to make use of it later.

As a result, when the blood sugar level is undue, the kidneys will not be capable to filter it all. The glucose then spills into the urine thereby taking water with it.

If left untreated at that time, the body starts to burn stored fat for energy, resulting in hunger and weight loss. It can as well transpire into potentially critical metabolic disturbances.

Another thing with this disease is that symptoms of diabetes can easily be confused with other medical conditions signs and symptoms or not recognized at all in most cases. At times as these symptoms start, the occurrence is slow but sure and we don’t even take notice of it. There is this adage that goes like this “you can’t cover pregnancy” meaning that even if someone pay heed to the diabetes when it is about starting or not, it will still be. So it is only when they become so critical as we can’t ignore them any more that medical attention is been sought for.

Having said all that, in this article we will look into the five significant steps to controlling your diabetes. As all these five steps can help to avoid any complications, in addition to that allow you to live a normal and industrious life.

-Diet: The foods you eat plays a vital role in controlling diabetes and also weight loss. As stated by Harvard Medical School researchers that diabetic women who ate fish just one time in a week had a 40% less risk of heart disease than women who had fish less than once in a month. For that reason, ensure to add fish or a fish oil supplement like Salmon Oil Plus to your diet without delay.

-Stress management: Do you know that high levels of stress can affect your blood sugar level and in addition cause other health conditions. So it is imperative to learn and practice stress management. You are to seek advice from your doctor for recommended stress management practices for you.

-Diabetes control is a major undertaking and you should not even attempt it by yourself. It is very important to have health care specialist to help you out. Ensure to go for a specialist that suits your medical needs and also your personality. You must be able to openly talk about your state of health if you are to be given the best care and assistance.

-Exercise: Exercise can help to bring your blood sugar level under control. Incase you have not had any physical activity in a while, ensure to discuss it with your general practitioner prior to commencement of any work out program.

- Controlling your blood sugar is obviously the most important part of controlling your diabetes. Therefore to get good control requires you to test your blood sugar level steady. As various factors affect the level of your blood sugar. The only means to ascertain the cause and effect is by checking your blood sugar day after day at scheduled times all through the day.

Basically, what I suggest you do is do away with the sugar from your diet and add or increase the amount of fatty fish or fish oil that you are getting.

Actually the American Heart Association is so sure of the fish oil benefits that they recommend everybody, including diabetes victims to eat fatty fish at least two or three times a week.

So if already you are a victim of diabetes or you just want to guard yourself from this disease, you should be eating fatty fish like tuna, salmon or sardines at least three times each week.

Incase you can’t do that then you need to begin supplementing your diet with a pure omega 3 fish oil supplement. However the one I suggest is Salmon Oil Plus.

This Salmon Oil Plus gives you the recommended amount of 1 gram of the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. As that is just what you need to stay healthy.

In conclusion, do not disregard the diabetes symptoms. However if you detect it earlier then diabetes can be controlled and chances of rigorous complications are reduced.
