I have had my friends grandma who is a nurse tell me she thinks that I might be becoming diabetic. And It runs in my family. Lately I have been feeling kind of sick and my weight has been really weird. What are all the signs of diabetes in young teenage girls?

I am 27 weeks pregnant, I go in for my glucose test in 3 weeks. I was just wondering if there are any warning signs that I may have gestational diabetes. This is my second pregnancy, I didn’t have any problems with my first pregnancy nor do I have a history of diabetes or high blood pressure or anything like that. I have just been feeling really sick the past few days. Every time I eat I feel very nauseous and sometimes even have stomach pain. Does anyone know if this is normal? Thanks.

The warning signs of gestational diabetes are the same as the warning signs of other forms of diabetes. Most commonly people are going to notice significantly increased thirst and urination. As far as I know, stomach pain and nausea after eating are not signs of diabetes.

Question by Socially Correct: How does Diabetes hurt the skin? & what are the signs of Diabetes?
I read on the doctors wall where they have posters informing you of different diseases and they had one where diabetes can hurt your skin and said “Protect Your Skin” And I am just curious to know. How does diabetes hurt your skin? What would your skin look like when it is affected by diabetes?
My concern is because my mom know has Diabetes type 2 and I am concern for myself and not sure if I have the signs. No health insurance.

A lot of times certain diabetic medicines make your skin more susceptible to burns when being in the sun, and when your diabetic it takes a lot longer for your blood to clot when you get a scratch or a sore. Since it takes longer for these things to heal you also become more open to infections and etc.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.

There are 20.8 million children and adults in the United States, or 7% of the population, who have diabetes. While an estimated 14.6 million have been diagnosed with diabetes, unfortunately, 6.2 million people are unaware that they have the disease.

Diabetes can cause many complications. Acute complications (hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis or nonketotic hyperosmolar coma) may occur if the disease is not adequately controlled. Serious long-term complications include cardiovascular disease (doubled risk), chronic renal failure (diabetic nephropathy is the main cause of dialysis in developed world adults), retinal damage , nerve damage (of several kinds), and microvascular damage, which may cause erectile dysfunction (impotence) and poor healing.

In type 2 diabetes, symptoms develop slowly and are usually milder. At least 65 percent of those with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke. Diabetes treatment depends on the type and severity of the diabetes. 

 Type 2 diabetes is first treated with weight reduction, a diabetic diet, and exercise. Regular exercise is especially important for people with diabetes. It helps with blood sugar control, weight loss, and high blood pressure.
